Raking Your Lawn

Raking your lawn to remove moss and a build up of dead grass and debris (thatch) prevents the lawn feeling too soft and spongy when walked on. Raking also allows air to the grass and creates healthier growing conditions. When moss growth is very thick, it is advisable to kill the moss a few weeks prior to raking with a moss killer which can easily be applied in granular form. The Flymo Lawnrake Compact 340 makes light work of lawn raking and moss removal.

Raking is normally done in spring or autumn, but a light raking in early summer on a high setting when the grass is green and growing will greatly improve the condition of your lawn.

Leaves

Autumn leaves if allowed to build up on lawns can cause problems by excluding light, which turns the grass yellow. This in turn weakens the grass and can lead to other problems.

Clearing fallen leaves is very simple and fast with a Garden Vac which collects and shreds the leaves making them ideal for adding to a compost bin. Alternatively they can be blown from the lawn with the powerful blower.
